Location

The Dean's Office of the Faculty of Sciences is located on the main street Svobody 26 near the historical center of the city Olomouc. However, the other teaching facilities are spread around the city. Teaching and research facilities related to physics such as Department of Optics, Department of Experimental Physics and the Joint Laboratory of Optics are located near the quarter of student's hostels on the street 17.listopadu. The mathematical departments are situated in the part of Olomouc-Hejčín. All places can be reached easily by means of public transportations (trams and buses).

Departments

Faculty of Sciences consists of 16 departments. Departments related to mathematics and physics are:

Part-time and extension teacher's study possible.

Physics is studied in the courses for BSc. degree (usually 3 years) and for MSc. degree (additional 2 years). The following specializations are available:

Optics and optoelectronics
Biophysics and chemistry physics
Applied physics

In addition to this there are several courses scheduled for BSc. degree only:

Physics for instruments,    Optics for instruments,    Optometry

General Information

The teaching program on the Faculty of Sciences is based on a thorough knowledge of mathematical methods as well as experimental and theoretical physics. In the undergraduate courses they become familiar with modern concepts of physics mathematics. BSc. degree is awarded in the 3rd year of studies after passing an exam. Students are taught and supervised individually starting the MSc. courses (after 3rd year) and may choose their specialization. The undergraduate courses for BSc. and MSc. degrees are taught in Czech. The promising students may appraise their ability in the postgraduate studies (PhD). They are involved in various research projects, since the research associates are engaged in teaching, supervise the student's research projects and give special courses. The graduates may easily adopt in broadly oriented research teamwork and switch to the needed areas of scientific and industrial research and development projects.

Research Activities

A wide range of research projects are carried out in collaboration with other research facilities in the following directions:

Mossbauer spectroscopy
Biophysics
Electron microscopy
Fundamental aspects of quantum theory
Quantum optics
Quantum information
Quantum cryptography
Nonlinear optics
Laser optics
Non-diffracting fields
in electromagnetic optics
